By installing a side beam you add additional mounting surfaces for your gear. Add MOLLE panels, QuickFist Mounts, ROTOPAX and MAXTRAX mounts, etc.
Also the Side Beam is required if you are going to install The Slideout Beam Kit.
This aluminium beam has multiple adjustable mounting slots as well it's position being adjustable vertically on your rack.
